Directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Taylor Kitsch reprising his role as the Earth-born warrior, the film promises a spectacular and emotionally charged return to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ legendary world of Barsoom.

Gods of Mars picks up ten years after the events of the original 2012 film. John Carter, finally returning to Mars after years stranded on Earth, finds a planet teetering on the edge of civil collapse. Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins) has vanished, Helium is under siege, and an ancient force known only as the “Firstborn” has risen from the darkened temples of Issus. These mysterious beings claim divine right to rule Barsoom — and wield godlike technology far beyond anything the planet has seen.

The trailer is a feast for the senses: sweeping red landscapes, aerial battles with skyships, colossal creatures emerging from beneath Martian sands, and glimpses of intense hand-to-hand combat. Villeneuve’s direction brings a more grounded, mythic tone to the saga. The design of the Firstborn city — built into the walls of the Valley Dor — is both stunning and unsettling. The trailer also teases a surprising alliance between Carter and Tars Tarkas (voiced again by Willem Dafoe), as well as a mysterious new character: Thuvia, Princess of Ptarth, portrayed by rising star Sofia Boutella.
