Set eight years after the outbreak that ravaged South Korea, Train to Busan 3 follows a group of survivors who uncover a risky plan to restore communication with Busan—now believed to be the last functioning, zombie-free city. The problem? It’s completely sealed off, surrounded by a "Red Zone" of mutated undead and rogue military factions.
Ma Dong-seok returns as Sang-hwa’s twin brother, a hardened ex-soldier leading a new mission aboard an armored bullet train retrofitted for war. Alongside him is Ji-won (Kim Da-mi), a tech-savvy resistance fighter with a mysterious past; Hyun-su (Yoo Ah-in), a scientist trying to reverse-engineer the virus; and Colonel Jang (Lee Jung-jae), a morally ambiguous commander with his own agenda.
As the team speeds toward Busan, facing endless waves of the infected and internal betrayal, the line between humanity and monstrosity blurs yet again.
Ma Dong-seok steals every scene with his signature mix of brute strength and quiet tenderness. Kim Da-mi delivers an emotionally complex performance, anchoring the film with a fierce yet vulnerable presence. Yoo Ah-in brings nuance and desperation as a man driven by guilt, while Lee Jung-jae provides a chilling, layered antagonist.
The ensemble cast has great chemistry, and the film wisely slows down at key moments to explore their backstories and motivations—offering more than just non-stop action.
Yeon Sang-ho continues to evolve the franchise’s style with a bolder, more cinematic approach. Train to Busan 3 blends the claustrophobia of the original film with the post-apocalyptic scale of Peninsula. The result is a tighter, more grounded experience than its predecessor, with tension-filled sequences aboard the train and haunting wide shots of ruined cities.
The zombies themselves are more terrifying than ever—faster, smarter, and seemingly evolving.
At its heart, the film is still about survival and sacrifice—but this time, it leans heavily into themes of redemption, the ethics of militarization, and the price of hope. The emotional beats hit hard, especially when the characters are forced to choose between saving the future or holding onto the past.

Some viewers may find the storyline occasionally predictable, and the villain subplot could have used more development. Additionally, while the train setting brings nostalgia, it’s not as central as in the first film.
Train to Busan 3 is a worthy and thrilling conclusion (or new beginning) to South Korea’s most iconic zombie series. It balances adrenaline-pumping action with genuine heart, proving that even in a world overrun by the undead, humanity still has a story worth telling.
