Nearly a decade after her horrifying encounter with a great white shark, Nancy Adams (Blake Lively) has managed to rebuild her life. Now a marine biologist and ocean safety advocate, Nancy travels around the world educating people on shark behavior and marine conservation. Though the trauma still lingers, she’s found purpose in understanding the creatures that nearly killed her.

But when a mysterious video surfaces online showing a group of divers being attacked off the coast of a remote Indonesian island, Nancy is pulled back into the depths of fear—and obsession. The video shows something no one can explain: a shark bigger, faster, and more aggressive than anything on record.

Nancy is recruited by an international marine research team led by Dr. Aisha Tan (Kaya Scodelario) and former navy diver Arif (Iko Uwais) to investigate a series of attacks and unexplained disappearances near a newly discovered underwater trench, nicknamed “The Crimson Abyss.” Against her instincts, Nancy joins the expedition, hoping to confront her fears once and for all.

The team sets up a floating marine lab just miles off the remote coast. Early sonar scans detect strange anomalies: deep vibrations, odd heat signatures, and a presence moving just below the thermocline—too deep for traditional tracking methods. Local fishermen whisper of an ancient sea god—“Ikan Darah,” or the Blood Fish—that devours anything crossing its path.

Despite warnings, Nancy dives with the team to collect samples. Everything seems calm until they descend into a vast underwater cave system. There, they find a sunken wreck coated in bloodstained coral. Then—silence. A shadow moves.

The creature strikes.

It’s not just a shark. It's a mutated apex predator, evolved in isolation with heightened aggression and unnatural speed. A hybrid of deep-sea hunter and ancient great white, drawn to blood and vibration.

Two divers are killed. The rest barely make it back.

Back at the lab, the crew scrambles for answers. Nancy suspects the trench contains a breeding ground—one that’s been disturbed by recent illegal drilling by a multinational corporation. Aisha reveals that the video Nancy saw wasn’t the first—this creature has been moving from reef to reef, following something. Its behavior is too intelligent, too targeted.

When a massive storm traps them on the open sea, communication is lost, and supplies dwindle. One by one, rescue ships sent to their location vanish—dragged into the depths, torn apart, or found abandoned and bloodied.

Arif, haunted by his own past encounter with sharks during a failed rescue mission, bonds with Nancy. Together, they hatch a plan: use the wrecked lab’s metal scaffolding to build an underwater sound trap, luring the creature into a narrow trench crevice, then detonate a controlled explosion to collapse the passage.

But something goes wrong.

The creature attacks early, destroying the lab’s power grid and scattering the team. Aisha is dragged into the water, and Arif sacrifices himself to give Nancy time to finish setting the charges.

Nancy, alone and injured, dives into the trench one final time. In a heart-pounding sequence, she uses her own bleeding leg as bait to lure the shark into the trap. As it charges her, she activates the charge and narrowly escapes the collapse.

Nancy wakes up on a lifeboat drifting toward a coral shore, rescued by local islanders. The trench is sealed, but questions remain. Was it the only one of its kind? Has something else escaped?

As Nancy stares into the horizon, a dorsal fin breaks the surface... then another.
