After finding harmony with the Bettermans in their newly shared paradise, the Croods have finally embraced a new way of life — filled with fresh fruit, treehouses, and slightly more civilized habits. But when the skies above their peaceful valley begin to rumble with mysterious lights and creatures that soar higher than any bird, their fragile balance is shattered. A young flying creature crashes near the village, sparking panic — and curiosity. Eep befriends the creature, naming it Zephyr, and soon learns that it belongs to an ancient race of Skybeasts, long believed to be myth.
Zephyr’s arrival heralds a coming danger: a colossal flying predator known as the Storm Maw, which is awakening from a centuries-long slumber in the clouds. It feeds on the Skybeasts — and anything else that moves. The Bettermans want to flee, but Grug believes they must stand their ground and protect the valley. A new journey begins as the Croods, the Bettermans, and their animal companions venture beyond the mountains to discover where the Skybeasts came from — and how to stop the Storm Maw before it turns their home into a hunting ground.
Along the way, the Croods face sky islands, floating jungles, and creatures that defy gravity. Thunk unexpectedly bonds with a clumsy Skybeast named Blimpy, who teaches him the power of confidence and gliding. Guy and Eep's relationship is tested when Eep insists on flying with Zephyr into danger, while Guy tries to build a more logical plan. Meanwhile, Gran finds herself hailed as a goddess by a cloud-dwelling tribe of ancient gliders who ride giant squirrels. (She doesn’t correct them.) Through teamwork, misadventures, and wild prehistoric inventions (including sky-slingshots and wind-powered gliders), the family discovers that the Storm Maw isn’t just a beast — it was once tamed by humans, long ago.
In the final showdown above the valley, the Croods and their new flying friends confront the Storm Maw in a dazzling sky battle. Eep and Zephyr soar into the storm, distracting the creature while Grug and Guy activate a massive wind turbine trap using vines, teamwork, and a lot of duct tape (prehistoric-style). As the Storm Maw is driven back into the clouds, balance is restored. The valley is safe — for now — and the Skybeasts choose to stay nearby, watching from the skies. The Croods return home, changed once more, reminded that family doesn’t just survive — they rise. In the final scene, Baby Sandy begins flapping her arms… and lifts just slightly off the ground.
