Rosemary's Baby 2 (2025) is the chilling, long-delayed sequel to Roman Polanski’s 1968 horror classic — and it does the unthinkable: it dares to grow up the Antichrist. Directed by Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar), the film blends psychological horror, religious dread, and maternal tragedy into a slow-burning nightmare that both honors and haunts the legacy of the original.

Set 56 years after the birth of Adrian (the son of Satan), the sequel begins in modern-day New York. Rosemary Woodhouse (now played by Jessica Lange, in a masterful reinterpretation of Mia Farrow’s character) is believed long-dead — but we discover she’s been in hiding in a monastery for decades, under a false name, having faked her death to escape the cult that raised her son.

The story kicks off when a series of worldwide catastrophes — unexplained fires, mass suicides, prophetic visions — all point to Adrian (played by rising star Bill Skarsgård) ascending to global power through a tech-philanthropic empire. Unaware of his true identity, Adrian suffers from dreams of fire and betrayal. But as his 33rd birthday nears, the coven that birthed him — now global and digital — returns to guide him toward his destiny.

When Rosemary learns her son’s identity is about to be fully “awakened,” she comes out of hiding and embarks on a desperate mission to save him from becoming what he was born to be. But is it already too late?

Unlike most horror sequels, Rosemary’s Baby 2 isn’t about jump scares or gore. It’s about paranoia, motherhood, generational trauma, and the question of free will. Is Adrian evil by nature, or can he choose a different path? And how much responsibility does Rosemary bear for what she brought into the world?

Ari Aster’s direction brings slow dread, creeping surrealism, and emotional horror to the forefront. Dream sequences, ghostly memories of the original film, and occult symbolism all seep into the narrative like poison. The apartment at the Dakota is revisited — now a luxury complex with buried secrets — and the chilling lullaby from the original returns, reimagined by composer Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker).

The supporting cast includes:

• Tilda Swinton as the leader of the modern coven

• LaKeith Stanfield as a skeptical journalist investigating the deaths around Adrian

• Jenna Ortega in a mysterious role as “the Watcher” — possibly Adrian’s half-sister or… something else entirely

A post-credits scene shows Adrian walking through the ruins of the Vatican, where a blasphemous version of the Last Supper is painted in blood. A voice whispers: “This is just the beginning.”

The third film could depict a world descending into apocalypse — not with demons and fire, but through ideological control, mass deception, and the final battle for human choice. The Antichrist may not need to conquer — only convince.
