Rampage 2 (2026)

After the surprising success of Rampage (2018), Rampage 2 (2026) returns with even more massive destruction, jaw-dropping creature battles, and a surprisingly emotional core. Directed once again by Brad Peyton and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, this sequel ups the stakes with new monsters, global-scale chaos, and a tighter, more focused story that blends blockbuster thrills with a heart-pounding race for survival.

Rampage review: Dwayne Johnson's latest is a 'disaster' movie alright

Set several years after the events of the first film, primatologist Davis Okoye (Dwayne Johnson) is now the director of a global wildlife security agency. When a top-secret biotech facility in Siberia is attacked and unleashes a new generation of genetically enhanced creatures—this time deadlier, faster, and with evolved intelligence—the world is plunged into crisis once again.

Among the new threats is “Scylla,” a six-legged arctic hybrid capable of freezing entire landscapes, and a sky-bound terror called “Kriegwing,” a mutated pterosaur engineered for aerial warfare. As cities fall and alliances are tested, Davis must reunite with his giant albino gorilla companion George—now living in protected isolation—and a new team of scientists to uncover who’s behind the resurgence of the Rampage program.

Dwayne Johnson continues to shine as Davis Okoye, delivering his signature mix of physicality, charisma, and unexpected warmth. His bond with George remains the emotional heart of the film, bringing surprising tenderness amidst all the chaos.

New cast members include Florence Pugh as Dr. Eliza Wren, a geneticist with ties to the original experiments, and Hiroyuki Sanada as a morally complex villain with a personal vendetta. Both add fresh energy and complexity to the narrative.

The action in Rampage 2 is nothing short of spectacular. The film features epic monster battles set in exotic global locations—from the icy wastelands of Siberia to the neon-lit skyline of Tokyo. The visual effects are a major step up from the first film, with ultra-detailed creature design and seamless integration of CG and practical effects.

A standout sequence features a three-way battle between George, Scylla, and Kriegwing on a crumbling high-speed bullet train in the Japanese Alps—a scene as exhilarating as it is visually stunning.

While Rampage 2 remains a creature feature at its core, it adds layers of ethical dilemma and environmental commentary. Questions about human interference with nature, corporate greed, and weaponized science form the backbone of the story. The film never becomes preachy but uses its monsters to reflect real-world fears.

Despite the seriousness of the themes, the film retains its sense of fun, with well-timed humor, explosive set pieces, and clever callbacks to the original.

Rampage 2 (2026) delivers exactly what fans hoped for—and more. It’s bigger, bolder, and better in nearly every way, managing to be both a thrill ride and a surprisingly thoughtful sequel. With an even stronger emotional core and improved storytelling, it proves that monster movies can still have heart beneath the rubble.
