Missing in Action 2: The Beginning is the direct prequel to the original 1984 film Missing in Action. However, subtlety is not the film’s strength. The characters are clearly divided into good vs. evil, and the film embraces patriotic heroism in a way that might feel overly simplistic to modern viewers. Still, for fans of ‘80s action cinema, it delivers exactly the kind of grim, muscular storytelling they expect.
