Mavka 2

FILM.UA announces a new chapter in the 'Mavka' universe

Following the critical and emotional success of the original Mavka: The Forest Song, the highly anticipated sequel, Mavka 2: Kingdom of the Forest Winds, elevates the narrative with fresh stakes, deeper mythology, and breathtaking visual storytelling. Co-written by Oksana Lyniv and Daniel Collás, and directed by Olga Zarubina, the film builds on its predecessor’s blend of Slavic folklore and environmental allegory—while charting new emotional terrain.

Set two years after Mavka (voiced by Mila Sivatska) restored the balance between the human realm and the enchanted forest, a new crisis emerges. The Forest Winds—ancestral spirits represented as luminous birds—begin vanishing. Without them, seasonal cycles falter: spring delays, summer wilts, and winters deepen prematurely. Kiana (Natasha Korotayevych), now a bridge between worlds, senses that an ancient curse has been awakened by the expansion of nearby farmland and human interference.

Meanwhile, Lukas (Alexander Ilyin), protector of the forest, wrestles with guilt for failing to foresee the imbalance. Teamed again with Mavka, he ventures deep into the ancestral Grove of Echoes, where whispers of the Wind Queen surface. Their quest leads them to underground caverns illuminated by bioluminescent fungi, through wind-blown high plateaus, and finally to confront the source: a corrupted Wind Queen, displaced by human-caused storms damaging her ancient shrine.

The sequel maintains the stunning 3D animation and lush natural scenery audiences loved, while introducing new visual motifs: swirling aerial dance sequences with glowing wind spirits; haunting arches of ancient trees bending under unseen gales; and night-time rituals lit by ethereal windlight. Composer Maxym Syyenko enriches the score with wind instruments and choral chants that echo through the forest, heightening emotional connection.

Mavka 2 deepens its environmental message: it argues that human expansion not only destroys habitats—it silences unseen spirits. The film explores responsibility, healing, and the courage to restore broken bonds. Mavka’s arc evolves from defender to mediator; she must negotiate peace between humans and spirits, even when the Wind Queen demands retribution. Lukas learns humility, acknowledging that brute strength doesn’t heal wounds—compassion does.
