Meet Olivia Bloom, a fiercely independent but emotionally exhausted travel blogger who has just been dumped via text message... during her birthday... while lost in Nevada. Determined to get back on track—literally and spiritually—she throws her phone into a cactus (a bad idea) and decides to hitchhike her way home to Seattle, hoping to turn the worst birthday ever into the beginning of something new.
Enter Max, a clumsy, endlessly optimistic wannabe magician who drives a rusted blue van named “Wanda.” He's traveling cross-country to audition for "America’s Got Card Tricks," and yes—he thinks pulling coins from ears is still impressive. His only companion? A grumpy goat named Steve, who eats Doritos and responds only to country music.
Max picks up Olivia at a dusty gas station, and the chaos begins.
From the moment she steps into the van, it's clear they’re polar opposites. Olivia is neat, sarcastic, and allergic to goats. Max is messy, loud, and apparently allergic to silence. But somewhere between sharing a moldy Twinkie in Utah and sleeping under the stars in Arizona, the tension starts to melt. Not just because the van’s A/C breaks — but because their hearts start to thaw.
The trip is full of hilarious detours: they accidentally crash a cowboy wedding in Texas (Steve becomes best goat-man), get mistaken for a married couple at a retirement resort, and get chased by angry alpacas after Max tries to “borrow” a souvenir hat.
Yet amid the laughter, emotional moments sneak in. Olivia opens up about her fear of being alone. Max reveals that his dream of being a magician is really about reconnecting with his late grandfather, who once told him: “The best magic is making someone smile when they want to cry.”
