Years after Miguel's unforgettable journey to the Land of the Dead, he has grown into a gifted young musician, now performing in festivals across Mexico. But despite his success, something begins to trouble his heart. His great-grandmother Coco has passed on, and now Miguel starts to forget the sound of her voice, her laugh, even her stories. When Día de los Muertos arrives once again, Miguel places a photo on the ofrenda, but notices something strange—Coco’s spirit doesn’t cross over. With a sense of loss growing deeper, Miguel takes up his guitar and finds himself pulled once more into the shimmering world beyond the veil.
The Land of the Dead has changed. New spirits arrive every day, but many older ones have begun to fade—forgotten by their families in the living world. Miguel reunites with Héctor and Imelda, only to discover that the spiritual balance is weakening. A mysterious phenomenon called La Niebla—the Fog—is erasing memories and consuming parts of the afterlife. At the center of it all is a long-lost musician named Luna Rosario, Coco’s childhood friend and forgotten composer, whose unfinished lullaby holds the key to restoring what’s been lost. To save Coco’s memory and others like her, Miguel must find Luna’s song and perform it before sunrise.
Joined by his loyal dog Dante and a new spirit guide—a sarcastic hummingbird named Chispa—Miguel travels across forgotten corners of the afterlife, including silent towns, memory vaults, and the ethereal River of Echoes. Along the way, he meets other fading souls who once brought joy to the world—street performers, poets, even a forgotten mariachi band. Each encounter teaches Miguel that remembering isn’t just about photos or names, but about telling stories, singing songs, and passing them on. Time is running out, and Miguel must confront the truth: saving memories isn’t only for the dead—it’s a responsibility of the living, too.
