In a world where loyalties shift like shadows and truth is buried under layers of lies, Agent (2025) thrusts viewers into a pulse-pounding espionage thriller that questions what it truly means to serve your country—when the country may no longer exist.

Kai Tanaka (Henry Golding) is a highly trained covert operative for a mysterious international security organization known only as Aegis. Believed to be a rogue unit by most world governments, Aegis operates in the gray zone between diplomacy and war. Kai, one of its top field agents, has never failed a mission. But when an extraction in Prague goes catastrophically wrong, Kai is betrayed by someone on the inside.

Captured and tortured, he escapes—but the intel he was meant to secure is gone: a flash drive containing the identities of every active undercover agent in the world.

On the run, Kai learns he has been disavowed. Aegis brands him a traitor. Interpol, MI6, and the CIA put out red notices for his arrest. The only person he can turn to is Vera Locke (Charlize Theron), a brilliant and ruthless former handler who vanished years ago after allegedly turning on her own agency.

Kai finds Vera in Argentina, where she reveals the horrifying truth: Aegis is no longer what it was. A shadow faction within it, led by the elusive and deadly Dr. Anton Virel (Mads Mikkelsen), is orchestrating a silent takeover—removing agents who won’t fall in line, and using deepfake technology, bio-enhanced soldiers, and artificial intelligence to rewrite global control.

Virel’s plan? Erase all independent agents and replace them with a digital army loyal only to him.

Realizing he must act before the drive is decrypted, Kai and Vera begin gathering the last remaining uncorrupted agents, each believed dead or rogue:

  • Dara Okabe (Rinko Kikuchi), a Japanese drone warfare expert who controls autonomous fleets from a hidden station in Hokkaido.

  • Michael West (John Boyega), a disgraced ex-MI6 field agent turned underground resistance leader.

  • Juno, a former assassin turned hacker, known only by her voice—and capable of bringing down satellites.

Together, they uncover a ticking clock: in just 72 hours, Virel’s AI system, NEXUS, will launch “Protocol Ghost,” wiping every independent intelligence record and activating kill-switches implanted in dozens of sleeper agents across 42 countries.

Infiltrating the heavily guarded Aegis Vault buried beneath the Icelandic tundra, the team fights through enhanced mercenaries, digital illusions, and their own fractured trust. Kai is forced to confront his own dark past: it turns out he was Virel’s first prototype for the enhanced Agent Program—a living weapon, unknowingly monitored his entire life.

In a brutal showdown, Kai faces Virel inside the nerve center of NEXUS. Virel offers him a choice: join and become commander of the new order, or die a relic of a chaotic past.

Kai refuses.

With Vera’s help, he uploads a virus into NEXUS using the core of his own bio-coding—sacrificing his ability to ever be anonymous again. The virus wipes the AI and exposes Aegis’s crimes to the world.

The world reels from the leaked data. Governments scramble to fill the intelligence void. Many agents are saved. Aegis is dissolved. Kai vanishes without a trace.

A year later, Vera receives a postcard from Zanzibar with only two words:
“Still watching.”

She smiles.“He was built to follow orders. Now he’s rewriting the rules.”

Deep in a vault somewhere in Eastern Europe, a prototype AI core flickers back online. A familiar voice whispers:

“Protocol Ghost: Reconstructing…”
